Does anyone have access to a Mazda VIN decoder, or know where I can find one? In my “might actually buy a car soon” shopping I found a nice NC Miata and want to know if it has an LSD. Here’s the VIN JM1NC25F860119123
And yeah I know I said my wife shot down the Miata, but that don’t mean I’m giving up
And the auto trader ad. Just look at at that interior color. I want to be inside it. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

“5 speed manual with overdrive”
That’s one way to say 6 speed manual

I think you’d have to track down the build sheet, the VIN won’t tell you that.

Yeah that’s stupid

Dang it

Contact Mazda, that’s been the surefire way to get a definitive answer.
According to Miata.net ( https://www.miata.net/faq/brochures/2006/2006_mx5_brochure.pdf ), this would have a LSD as the keyless ignition means it has one of the Premium Packages.

Yeah I’m sold in this car

That’s a nice one! Plus free coffee.

You could also take it for a test drive and do a burn out to see if both rear wheels spin at the same time.

It’s a few hours away. I want to know before I make the drive lol

Depends on the gear ratios. It’s in “drive” when the ratio is 1:1. If 5th gear is 1:1, then 6th would be overdrive. If 6th was 1:1, then it would be a six-speed manual without overdrive.

“I know my wife shot down the Miata, but that don’t mean I’m giving up.”
Famous last words?
Why not a nice coupe instead? At least you could have a backseat that you could stick some kiddies in. Sc400? Mustang? 330ci?

Yeah that’s true. But it doesn’t say 1,2,3,4,5,0d on the shifter

Those are all great cars. But my heart aches for Miata

Mm do approve of the brown interior

It’s the low cost of maintenance that draws me to the Miata more than anything . It’s like a RWD Civic

323i cabriolet? :P

Those warm red tinted leathers always make me happy

Hmmm that’s true. Consider also a manual IS300 sedan? “See, honey? It’s a nice sedan! Family car!”

If I could find a low mileage Is300 with a manual trans, Unmodified I’d jump on it. She actually approved of this. But only if I Promise to keep it more than 5 years https://m.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=458629798

Why not something like that and buy an NA for fun on the side?

I like the way you think. I already pitched the idea of buying a Fit, and keeping the Galants and was reminded that “we don’t have room for three cars” which I disagree with we have a perfectly good back yard

I have a 1 car garage and 1 wide driveway. The IS stays in the garage, double-parked by my wife’s car, then my two pickups are street parked, on what is semi-technically my property. Surely there’s plenty of room for three cars!

This is the thing that only car guys understand. There’s always room for another car

You could probably call or email Mazda and have them decode the VIN. Lot of NB and NA owners/buyers do that to ensure the car they’re buying is the correct package.
